You’re waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away, into the legal career you dream of. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you don’t know for sure. But it doesn’t matter. How can it not matter to you where the train will take you? Well, it’s because you’re in your final year of law school. The whole thing seems like a dream within a dream within a dream (or nightmare). Or a contract within a contract within a contract. Or was that a collateral contract? Who remembers. At some point, Leo DiCaprio entered your subconscious and planted the idea: go to law school. That’s the only way to explain the mad idea. So here you are. Your final year of law school. Whether it was a dream or nightmare, it’s close to finished now and you’re about to be welcomed into reality. For some of you that means sliding into a grad position via a well-timed clerkship, for others this might mean a career path outside the law altogether. The options open to you are as diverse as the Australian law student body and almost as diverse as your University brochure suggests. But rest assured that you’re not alone in your journey. This is the field guide for wherever it is that this crazy law school train is taking you. Good luck, survivors. Neeharika Maddula Editor, Survive Law 4
